CROWNS & VENEERS

Your smile is an important feature of your face and often the first thing that people notice. If you’re struggling with teeth imperfections and structural malformations, Summerside Dental offers restorative treatments such as crowns and veneers as a possible solution to these dental plights.

For problems such as stained or chipped teeth, veneers can be used to permanently cover the front surface of the tooth and improve its aesthetic appearance. Dental crowns, on the other hand, cover or encase the tooth and are viable options for shape and size restoration. There are several options available and you can trust us at Summerside Dental to have the knowledge, experience, and dental technicians ready to provide the appropriate restoration for your tooth.

Lab-made or On-site Dental Crown Options For Your Teeth!

Whether your tooth needs a covering made of gold, porcelain-fused-to-metal, or all-porcelain, we have the options for you at our South Edmonton dental clinic! As for whether you would benefit from lab-made or on-site crowns, you can consult with one of our dentists and be evaluated for the option that benefits you the most.

Lab-made crowns typically take a few weeks to be produced before being placed, during which time your tooth is protected with a temporary crown.  If material strength and durability are not as much of a concern to you as aesthetics are, then a natural-looking porcelain crown can be lab-made or created onsite in a single visit. Benefits of Using CEREC For Your Same-day Crowns

The same-day crowns at Summerside Dental are milled using a CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic) machine, which is an in-office digital CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing) device. Our CEREC machine uses strong compressed dental porcelain, an industry-standard material, to create a unique crown customized to the individual tooth.
For patients who may not need inlays, onlays, or full crowns, but are simply looking to mask stains or close dental spaces, then composite fillings or lab-made veneers may be what you’re looking for.
Please contact us to schedule a consultation regarding which restoration and material is best suited for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are veneers installed?

Before installation, the dentist will take a model of your tooth/teeth and send that model to a lab to create your new dental veneer. Once that is done and your veneers have arrived, a fitting will be done beforehand to check for proper fit. A special cement is then applied to the tooth/teeth and then the veneers. After the cement hardens, the dentist scrapes the excess cement out and evaluates your bite.

What are the benefits of having veneers installed on my teeth?

Veneers are a permanent solution to correct imperfections in your teeth. Some of its benefits include whiter teeth, restoration of chipped and cracked teeth, tooth gap closures, minor straightening of crooked teeth, and the replacement of damaged tooth enamel. We strongly recommend consulting with one of our dentists to discuss if veneers are the right choice for you and your dental situation.

How long do crowns last?

Most insurance companies will pay for the replacement of a crown every 4 years, but many crowns last much longer than that — depending on the health and cleanliness of the mouth, the bite forces against the tooth, and the structural integrity of the remaining tooth structure underneath the crown.

Should my tooth have a same-day crown or a lab made crown?

If you prefer non-metal dental restorations, then you may value the aesthetic look of a same-day crown.  However, if you clench or grind your teeth, or have a very strong biting force with your chewing muscles, then a lab-made gold crown or porcelain-fused-to-metal crown would be a better choice for you.  Call us at 780-665-4833 for one of our general dentists to evaluate which type of crown would suit you best.

Why should my tooth be crowned?

You should get a crown to protect your tooth from further deterioration. If your tooth has a cusp missing, is severely worn down, has had a root canal, or flexes when you bite on it (causing a quick sharp fleeting zing of pain — indicating that it is most likely cracked) then you could benefit from a crown to cover the entire surface of the tooth to prevent further fracture or wear. Call us at 780-665-4833 for a specific examination of your weak tooth.
